After a rough start to the 2025-2026 season, Mercer men’s basketball heads into the new year on a hot streak and with optimism for the second half of the season. MCCC started the season 0-8, Mercer has won five of their last six games and are on a four-game winning streak heading into the new year.
The Mustangs have won three straight Region games including a 101-97 win at Essex on December 18th to close out 2025. The win at Essex puts MCCC at 3-3 in Region play. Mercer will face their Region opponents again in 2026. In order to qualify for the Region Playoffs, teams must finish the regular season with a .500 or better record overall or in Region play.
After an 0-3 start in Region play and 0-8 start to the season, qualifying for the postseason seemed like a long shot. But after seven straight losses, things turned around for the Mustangs and they find themselves in the playoff hunt and riding a four-game win streak. The Region win at Essex to close out 2025 was big and will hopefully continue the positive momentum into 2026.
