MCCC To Host Region 19 Championship May 8th-10th

 

 

Mercer County Community College is hosting the Region 19 Baseball Tournament May 8th-10th.  The Vikings enter as the top seed and will first play County College of Morris, the #4 seed at 10:00 AM at MCCC.  Lackawanna, the #2 seed will face Sussex County CC, the #3 seed at Mercer County Park also at 10:00 AM.  All games in the double elimination tournament will be nine innings.  

 

The Vikings enter the Region 19 Tournament with a 32-26 record.  The aces of the MCCC pitching staff have been dominant.  Sophomore Collin Williams is 8-0 with a 1.91 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched.  Freshman Shaniel Maldonado (Trenton, NJ/St. Benedict’s Prep) is 7-0 on the mound with a 1.66 ERA.

 

Offensively, Mercer has been very strong offensively and have a team batting average of .330.  The Vikings have had many different players step up throughout the season. One of Mercer’s most consistent hitters has been freshman Jordan Raba (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) who is batting .419 with 65 hits and 22 stolen bases. Sophomore Jake Pope (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) is batting .372 with 55 hits and 28 stolen bases.  Sophomore catcher Owen Friddell (Delran, NJ/Delran HS) is batting .378 with 45 hits and sophomore Joey Socorro (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford HS) is batting .352 with 36 RBIs and 38 hits.

 

Mercer will be home for all games of the Region Tournament.  The second set of games on Thursday will be at 2:00 PM.
