Krebs, Vargas and Worrell Honored for National Girls and Women in Sports Day

National Girls and Women in Sports Day falls nationally on February 7th.   MCCC recognized three female athletes at a men’s basketball home game on February 1st.   One sophomore from each women’s sports team (softball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis) was honored at halftime of the game.  The female athletes have demonstrated success on the court/field and in the classroom as well as demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.  The selections for 2024 are Shea Krebs (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville HS) from softball, Valeria Vargas (Valencia, Venezuela/Instituto Santa Cruz) from women’s tennis and Hannah Worrell (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial) from women’s soccer.

Softball pitcher Krebs went 18-4 last spring for the Vikings and had 123 strikeouts in 109.1 innings pitched.  Krebs earned 1st Team All-Region 19 and GSAC (Garden State Athletic Conference) honors in 2023.  Krebs helped the Vikings to a 40-10 record last spring.  Krebs was named an NJCAA Academic All-American in May and earned All-Region and All-Conference Academic honors in Fall 2022, 2023 and Spring 2023.  Krebs is a Communications major.

Women’s tennis player Vargas played #1 Singles and Doubles for the Vikings last spring and helped the Vikings to a 25th place finish at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis National Championship in Georgia.  Vargas earned All- Conference and All Region-Academic honors in Spring 2023 and Fall 2023.  Vargas is a Business Administration major.

Women’s soccer player Worrell was a captain for the Vikings this fall and was a member of the 2022 team that went undefeated (15-0) in the regular season, the first time in MCCC women’s soccer program’s history.  Over two seasons, Worrell was a part of 19 wins for Vikings women’s soccer.  Worrell helped anchor a defense that had four shutouts in 12 games in 2023 and started all 12 games for the Vikings this past spring.  Worrell is an Exercise Science major.

Congratulations to these MCCC female student athletes on their success on and off the court and field!
