MCCC Coaches Lead A Year To Remember

In what was arguably the most successful or one of the most successful years in MCCC Athletics history, six of Mercer’s nine coaches earned Region Coach of the Year honors: Matt Davies (men's lacrosse), Widmarc Dalce (men's soccer), Ron Stinson (women's soccer), Andy Stoll (men's tennis), Russ Stupienski (baseball), and Ryan Zegarski (softball).

Men’s soccer Coach Widmarc Dalce won the Region 19 and Northeast District Championship and led Mercer to the NJCAA Division II National Championship.  Women’s soccer coach Ron Stinson led the Vikings to a Region 19 title and top 25 ranking.  First year men’s lacrosse coach Matt Davies led the Vikings to a Region 19 title. 

Softball coach Ryan Zegarski led the Vikings to the NJCAA Division II World Series and program record 43 wins after winning the Region 19 and Atlantic A Championship.  Baseball coach Russ Stupienski was also named the Region 19 Coach of the Year.  MCCC baseball finished with a 34-20 record and advanced to the District Championship.  Men’s tennis coach Andy Stoll led Mercer to its first Region title since 2016 and the team finished as National Runner-Ups at the NJCAA Division III National Championship.

It was also an incredibly successful year for all Mercer coaches.  Women’s basketball coach Bob Fusik restarted the program after a three-year hiatus and helped the Vikings qualify for the Region 19 playoffs, win a playoff game and get their first national ranking in over 20 years.  Men’s basketball coach Howard Levy helped the men’s team win their final six games of the regular season to qualify for the Region 19 playoffs.  First year women’s tennis coach Qasim Khan led the team to their highest ever finish at the NJCAA Division I National Championship.
