Mercer men's soccer (17-3-1) captured the Region 19 Championship with a 3-1 win over Essex at The Proving Grounds.  Sophomore Jonas Castelhano Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Adventista de Vila Yara) scored the first Viking goal with seven minutes left in the first half.  Freshmen Oshana Boothe (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George's College) and Jonathan Ward (Forest Lake, Austalia/Forest Lake State HS) each scored second half goals to give the Vikings the 3-1 win.  Freshman Kotaro Okada (Matsuyama, Japan/Saibi Senior HS) had two assists in the win.  Sophomore Emiliano Fama (Miami, FL/Penn Foster) was named the Defensive MVP of the Region 19 Tournament and freshman Eiichi Yamaguchi (Osaka, Japan/Yonago Kita) was named the Offensive MVP of the Region 19 Tournament.  The Vikings advance to the Northeast District Tournament and will face Massasoit on Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 PM at Monroe (Rochester).  The winner of that game not only advances to the Northeast District Championship game but earns a bid to the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer National Championship.
