West Windsor, N.J.: Yevgeniy Fiks, professor of Visual Arts at Mercer, was recently selected as a visiting artist by the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD) and “Studio IN” from the Department of Intermedia and Multimedia in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Fiks will participate in AFAD’s ongoing project, “OPEN STUDIO,” supported by the KEGA-Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic. Fiks will be at AFAD to present his works to students from Nov. 26 – Dec. 1, 2012.
The goal of “OPEN STUDIO” is to enable AFAD’s students to gain an understanding of established artists from other countries by viewing their works and learning about the artists’ background and creative process. During his visit, Fiks will meet with students from the Intermedia and Multimedia Department and engage them in dialog that will give them a broader perspective on his work.
Professor Fiks’ work has been shown internationally, at museums such as the Philadelphia Museum of Modern Art, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and Marat Guelman Gallery in Moscow. Some of his most recent art projects focus on Soviet and Post-Soviet history. One of his painting series depicts portraits of members of Communist Party USA and the American Cold War Veterans Association.
AFAD offers study at three levels (bachelor, master and doctoral) and five specific fields: Fine Arts, Design, Architecture, Restoration, and Theory and History of Arts.
