Aquatic, Culinary, Horticulture and French Film Among the Noncredit Course Offerings at MCCC This Summer

West Windsor, NJ – Looking to expand your knowledge or pick up a new hobby?  Mercer County Community College’s Center for Continuing Studies (CCS) is offering a variety of noncredit courses this summer, including several new offerings.  Classes are held weekends and evenings on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
For those with an interest in growing their own garden, CCS is offering three horticulture courses: Organic Gardening (May 15-June 5), Sustainable Gardening (July 17-Aug. 14), and Topics in Horticulture: Gardening (May 28-June 27), which can also be taken as a credit course.

Several ESL courses will be offered, including Advanced Grammar for English Language Learners (July 30-Aug. 8); Pronouncing American English (May 8-July 17); American Sign Language I (June 3-18); and American Sign Language II (June 24-July 10).  Two new courses will be offered concurrently on Japanese culture: Japanese Art Forms (July 16-30) and a Japanese I language course (July 15-Aug. 14).  Also available are French Conversation I (May 7-June 11) and French Conversation II (June 13-July 18), as well as A Tour de France: Introduction to French Film (June 8-29).

This summer’s offerings include popular culinary courses at the MCCC Culinary Center.  Among them are Sensational Snacks for Casual Company with Chef Benson Yu (June 30), Spanish Tapas with Chef Bill Conrad (July 13), Whole Meal & Half the Time! with Chef Jeremy Stahl (June 9), and Under the Sea with Chef Meghan Cattani (May 4).  Wine connoisseur Bruce Smith will also offer four new wine courses: Lighter Style Red Wines (June 26), Summer Rosés (July 10), New Jersey Wines (July 17) and Blended Summer White Wines (July 24).

For those looking to explore the great outdoors, fitness and recreation courses are abundant.  Among them are Introduction to Golf (8 sessions) and Intermediate Golf (5 sessions), which both have various start dates, as well as Beginners and Intermediate Kayaking, both offered in one-session courses from May through August. Boating Safety (May 28-30) is a two-session course that prepares students and satisfies the State of New Jersey requirement to lawfully operate a boat or personal watercraft.  Participants take a licensing test at the conclusion of the course.

Various aquatics courses are offered for both children and adults, including exercises classes like Aqua-Power Workout (May 6-June 7) and H2O Fitness (May 6-June 7 and July 15-Aug. 16).  Other adult courses include Adult Beginners Swim (May 28-Aug. 6 and June 1-Aug. 10), Adult Advanced Beginners Swim (May 28-Aug. 6), and Lifeguard Training Update/Renewal (May 11-12).  The Saturday Swim Program is a nine-session program available for children ages 5-12 (June 8-Aug. 10), and Pre-School Swim Program for ages 3-6 will begin in early September (Those interested in this course may call (609) 570-3311 for information on the open enrollment date).

Many six-week online courses are available through CCS, including accounting, finance, business, computer applications, healthcare and medical, personal development, and teaching and education.  More information is available here.
