West Windsor, NJ: Mercer County Community College's Board of Trustees
invites the community to its annual Open House and Report to the
Community, set for Nov. 12, 2009 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Conference
Center on the West Windsor Campus. The event will celebrate college
successes and provide information about opportunities in credit
and noncredit programs using a harvest theme, "Abundant Learning
Opportunities Await You at Mercer."

The
Open House is designed for potential students of all ages, as well as
parents, alumni, community partners, teachers, guidance counselors, business
people and governmental representatives.Visitors will learn about the
abundant choices offered at Mercer, including 68 associate degree programs
and new degrees in Digital Film, Game Design, Solar Energy/Technology,
Culinary Arts and Physics. Staff from the Center for Continuing Studies
will provide information about year-round noncredit programs for career
advancement and personal interest, staff training for businesses, and
the college's summer camps. Academic counselors will be available.
Live music will be provided by the MCCC Jazz Band, and delicacies will
be prepared by student chefs. Additional refreshments will be served by
Conference Center staff. Physical Therapist Assistant students will provide
chair massages, television students will exhibit their videos, and electronics
students will demonstrate robotics.
During a ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m., the college's Board of Trustees
will honor two community partners who have supported the college and student
achievement over the years, and one distinguished alumnus. The Corporate
Partner Award will go to PSE&G. The Partner in Learning Award
will go to the American Chemical Society, Trenton Section, and the
Alumni Leader Award will go to Lester J. Venella, Jr. of Saul Funeral

The event coincides with the publication of the college's Annual Report
for the 2008-09 academic year. Highlights include renovation of the One-Stop
Student Center and Library, the development of new associate degree and
certificate programs in growing career fields, and new bachelor's degree
programs offered by William Paterson University at Mercer. WPU joins two
other colleges currently offering bachelor's programs at Mercer -- Fairleigh
Dickinson University and Felician College, collectively called The University
Center at Mercer.
A new Winter Session will give students an opportunity to utilize downtime
over winter break. Twenty-eight courses will be offered, including six-week
online classes starting Dec.21, and three-week on-campus classes beginning
Jan.4.
Mercer students distinguished themselves in a variety of ways throughout
the year. Student newspaper staffers won six awards from the New Jersey
Collegiate Press Association, Television students won two Aegis awards,
and men's soccer and women's tennis teams advanced to national tournaments.
"The opportunities we provide at MCCC change lives every day,"
said MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue. "We want more community
members to learn about what we offer, and to share in our successes. We
want everyone who cares about community college education in the county
to come and be part of this event."
The Nov. 12 Open House is free and open to the public. The MCCC Conference
Center is located on Mercer's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
