New
Opportunities at Mercer County Community College This Fall
7/14/10

WEST WINDSOR,
N.J. -- Fall credit classes begin August 30 at Mercer County
Community College (MCCC)'s West Windsor and James Kerney campuses,
and through The Virtual College. New opportunities include
Study Abroad, online classes in Nursing, and new transfer
opportunities. Click here for the course bulletin.
Mercer
offers nearly 70 associate
degree programs plus more than 30 credit certificates.
A new option this fall in Sports Management is part of the
Business Management program. Other recently introduced programs
are Solar/Energy Technology, Global Business, Physics, and
Insurance and Finance. Mercer's specialized programs, attracting
students from the tri-state region, include Aviation Flight
Technology, Funeral Services and Horticulture/Plant Science.
Dedicated
to helping students succeed, MCCC offers free tutoring, academic
advisement and assistance with state and federal financial
aid programs, grants, loans and scholarships. Flexible scheduling
includes the traditional 15-week semester plus semesters of
10, eight and five-weeks, with day, evening and weekend hours
to accommodate most schedules.
Continuing
this fall are bachelor's degree programs offered for MCCC
graduates right on the West Windsor campus. William Paterson
University offers programs in Education, Liberal Studies and
Psychology, Fairleigh Dickinson University in Business, Hospitality,
Communications and Criminal Justice, and Felician College
in Nursing.
New Jersey
legislation ensures that community college credits will transfer
easily to four-year state colleges, and MCCC also holds transfer
agreements with other colleges nationwide. Recently Mercer
signed new transfer agreements with Johnson and Wales University
in Rhode Island and LaSalle University in Philadelphia. National
statistics say that community college graduates who transfer
to four-year institutions do as well as, or better than, students
who begin there. The college will host an Information Session
for parents and college-bound students focusing on how to
begin at MCCC and transfer for a four-year degree, on Wed.,
Nov. 10, 6 p.m. at the Student Center on the West Windsor
campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. To register call 609-570-3244.
For those
who wish to enter into a career right after earning their
associate degree, MCCC offers a variety of programs, such
as Physical Therapist Assistant, Law Enforcement, Entertainment
Technology, Paralegal and Graphic Design.
Mercer's
popular Nursing program recently began an online option which
is also open to out-of-county and out-of-state residents.
According to Dean Linda Martin, students complete their coursework
online, and clinical rotations take place at Mercer County
hospitals 1½ days per week. For details visit mccc.edu/nursing
or call 609-570-3391.
This spring
MCCC reintroduced a Study Abroad program, dormant for a decade,
with a Study Tour to Italy for students in architecture and
culinary classes. Tours are being planned for the 2010-11
academic year to Costa Rica, London, Germany/Switzerland and
Paris. Study Abroad for a full semester is also available.
Initial information sessions are set for Aug. 25 and Sept.
21, with more scheduled for Oct. and Nov. For details visit
www.mccc.edu/studyabroad.
Mercer's
most highly motivated students may enter the Honors
Program, which provides an enriched college experience
for high-achievers. For the first time this fall, the Honors
Program is open to high-achieving incoming freshmen. Classes
will be offered in English, psychology, history and sociology.
