WEST
WINDSOR, N.J. -- Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and William
Paterson University (WPU) in Wayne, NJ, signed an agreement June
23 that enables WPU to offer bachelor's degree programs right on
Mercer's West Windsor campus.
Students who successfully complete associate of arts degrees will
be able to transfer into the William Paterson program, which will
offer bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood Education/Elementary
Education, Liberal Studies and Psychology. The classes, taught by
WPU faculty, will begin this September, and will take place in late
afternoons, evenings, Fridays, on weekends, and online.
According to MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue, one of the college's
goals is to increase articulated programs to provide opportunities
for local students. "Our students have been asking for the
opportunity to complete bachelor degrees in education on our campus.
This partnership with William Paterson University is ideal for many."

William
Paterson University President Arnold Speert said, "We were very impressed
with Mercer's program and felt that our institutions were right for collaboration.
We saw a need for this program in central New Jersey."
While students will not need to travel to William Paterson University
to complete their degree, they will be full-fledged William Paterson students
and will have access to the institution's library, information technology
resources, and other student benefits. One of the nine state colleges
and universities in New Jersey, WPU began more than 150 years ago to prepare
teachers for the classroom, and is now a public comprehensive university.
