Mercer County Community College to Honor Four at “Spring Into Student Success” April 2

3/12/12

WEST WINDSOR, N.J.  --  The Foundation Board of Mercer County Community College will honor four of the college’s community supporters at “Spring Into Student Success!” the 2012 annual fundraiser set for April 2 at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village.  All proceeds will provide scholarships and other critical financial support for MCCC students.

Replacing the college’s gala dinner dance, the event will include hors d’oeuvres, complimentary beer and wine until 8 p.m., coffee, desserts, a silent auction with original artwork donated by area artists, raffle, awards presentations and networking.  MCCC music students will provide entertainment, and horticulture students will create floral arrangements.

Distinguished Benefactor: Risa Lavizzo-Mourey and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)

As part of her leadership role on behalf of RWJF, Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey has chosen to support several scholarships for MCCC students. Recently the foundation provided major support for the Jim and Fannie Floyd Scholarship, which assists financially needy MCCC students in their quest for a college education. Believing that an educated citizen often means a healthy citizen, Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey said, “A large body of evidence strongly—and, with very rare exceptions, consistently—links education with health, even when other factors like income are taken into account.”

Spirit of Education Award: Robert Bonazzi

Through the Bonazzi Foundation for the Promotion of Science Education, Princeton Junction, Mr. Robert Bonazzi provides an annual Foundation Scholarship for MCCC students interested in pursuing a career as science teachers. A former biology teacher and former president of the New Jersey Education Association (1991-2007), Mr. Bonazzi believes strongly in science education. Currently he serves as an executive partner with Princeton Organizational Advisors and is an active member of many nonprofit and community groups.  “The more science kids know, the more they will be able to make good decisions when they become leaders in our world,” he said.
Spirit of Education Award: Scott Needham

A college alumnus and member of MCCC’s Foundation Board of Directors since 2004, Scott Needham serves in a leadership role on the Golf Classic committee and annually supports the spring fundraiser and Annual Giving Campaign. His company, Princeton Air Conditioning, also supports MCCC in a variety of ways, including gifts-in-kind. A native of West Windsor, Mr. Needham and his family have been closely connected to education at Mercer. His sister attended the college, and his mother, Joan Needham, taught in Mercer’s art department for many years. Mr. Needham learned to fly through Mercer’s Aviation Flight Technology Program.

Distinguished Corporate Partner: Joseph R. Ridolfi & Associates

Joseph R. Ridolfi has given generously of his time and talent to MCCC’s Foundation Board for more than ten years. Both personally and through his company, Joseph R. Ridolfi & Associates of Hamilton, he has supported the college and its students through the annual spring fundraiser, Golf Classic, Annual Giving Campaign and Floyd Fete. He has also provided scholarships for students.  A professional real estate practitioner for more than forty years, Mr. Ridolfi believes in the power of education to change lives. “Education is the key to advancement in life, and I want to help those who help themselves,” he said.

Serving as co-chairs of the committee are MCCC Foundation Board member Nina Melker, senior vice president of The Bank of Princeton, and Pasquale Colavita, chair of the Mercer County Freeholders.

Businesses and community members are invited to participate through corporate sponsorships, advertisements in the program book, silent auction donations, and/or tickets to the event, which are $115 each, or $215 for two.  Additional information is available here, or call 609-570-3293, or e-mail foundation@mccc.edu.
