Linda
Martin, MCCCs Dean of Science and Health Professions, Earns Doctorate

WINDSOR, N.J. -- Dr. Linda Martin, dean of Science and Health Professions
at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), has recently been awarded
her Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern
University of Miami, Florida.
Her
dissertation, Predicting Academic and NCLEX-RN Success in
an Associate Degree Nursing Program, has immediate application
to her work at MCCC. The focus is on how to maximize student success
in Nursing programs and on the licensure exam. Based on her research,
the college has introduced a number of changes to Nursing program
admission and progression policies, and will be comparing student

Also
serving as director of MCCCs Nursing program since 2005, Dr.
Martin was interim dean in 2006-07, and has taught the Nursing programs
capstone course since 2005. She initiated development of the Direct
Health Care Provider program at MCCC to meet healthcare workforce
needs in Mercer County, and secured a $20,000 grant from Johnson
and Johnson to equip a program laboratory. She assisted in developing
the Cooperative Nursing Program between St. Francis Medical Center
and the college, and she established a Nursing Alumni Chapter.

Before
joining Mercer, Dr. Martin was director of the Accelerated Second Degree
BSN Program and Director of the Center for Academic Support Services at
the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Her 15 years experience
at Rutgers College of Nursing Center for Professional Development included
gerontology and nursing licensure exam preparation.
Martin
holds a BS in Nursing from Trenton State College, an MS in Nursing from
Rutgers Graduate School, and a post-masters certificate as an Adult/Gerontological
Nurse Practitioner from Rutgers College of Nursing. She is an NLN-Certified
Nurse Educator, an ANCC Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Gerontological
Nursing, and holds ANCC Generalist Certification in Gerontological Nursing.
She is also a member of numerous professional committees.
In
2000 she received the Employee Values in Practice Award from St. Francis
Medical Center of Trenton, and has been recognized in Whos Who Among
Americas Teachers, Whos Who in American Nursing, and the National
League for Nursing Ambassadors.
