Scott Loh Appointed Director of Mercer County Fire Academy

WEST WINDSOR,
N.J. -- Scott Loh of Hamilton has been appointed director of the
Mercer County Fire Academy, which is now under the supervision
of Mercer County Community College. He assumed his duties on July
16 at the Dempster Fire Service Training Center in Lawrence Township.
Mr. Loh has
been active in the fire and emergency services community in Mercer
County for many years in both volunteer and professional roles.
He has served as chief of the Mercerville Fire Company, captain
of the Nottingham Emergency Services Squad, and was chief academic
operations manager for one year at the Mercer County Fire Academy.
He most recently served as assistant chief and site protection
specialist at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.
Mr.
Loh has taught both credit and noncredit courses through the Mercer
County Fire Academy, which offers a broad array of training programs.
He is certified for many levels of fire and emergency management
training, and is pursuing a bachelor's degree at Thomas Edison
State College.

In
his new position, Mr. Loh plans to enhance and build upon current programs.
"Our main focus is to strengthen what we have and then grow from
there," he said. "We want to make good choices when we make
choices to grow."
Thomas
Wilfrid, MCCC's vice president for academic and student affairs, expressed
confidence that Mr. Loh will be successful in the role. "We are
all committed to preserving and building upon the healthy program that
Scott has inherited from former director John Kubilewicz. Scott has
many ideas for expanding the Academy's services in related areas such
as emergency management," he said.
Mercer
County Community College assumed responsibility for the Mercer County
Fire Academy as of May 1 through an agreement with Mercer County. Firefighter
training will continue to take place at the Dempster Center in Lawrence.
The college offers an associate degree in Fire Science Technology and
two credit certificate programs, Fire Code Enforcement and Fire Officer/Administrator.
