	WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- Two Mercer County Community College women, Kay Eaton, director of College Advancement, and Bettina Caluori, associate professor of English, were chosen to participate in the National Institute for Leadership Development LEADERS program. They recently attended a five-day conference in Phoenix, AZ, focusing on women leaders in community colleges.

Eaton, of Newtown, PA, supervises the college's grants, alumni affairs, and relations with Mercer's Foundation. She earned her B.A. at Hartwick College and her M.S. from Syracuse University. Caluori, of Metuchen, earned her B.A. at Williams College and her Ph.D. at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Caluori said she valued the time to reflect on a variety of leadership approaches for different kinds of situations. "As I work to apply what I have learned in the coming year, I hope to turn around and help others."

Eaton said, "It was a wonderful thing to meet other women from around the country who are at various stages of their careers - and to benefit from sharing and gaining insights from each other. It has become a support network."

Mercer County Community College president, Dr. Patricia Donohue, is a member of the organization's board, and serves as a mentor to many members. "We would like this to be an annual opportunity, as we want to encourage women leaders at Mercer to expand their skills and create new pathways to successful solutions."

The year-long program includes practice in supervisory and human relations skills, planning, budgeting, and organizational transformation. It offers discussions with national experts on issues confronting higher education in the next decade.
