MCCC Press Release

According to the American Association of Communitiy Colleges (AACC), the more than 1,100 community colleges in the U.S. share the common mission of open access, comprehensive program offerings, a community-based philosophy, and a commitment to teaching and lifelong learning.

With origins that date back more than 100 years, community colleges are "a unique American invention that put publicly-funded higher education at close-to-home facilities and initiated a practice of welcoming all who desire to learn, regardless of wealth, heritage or previous academic experience," according to the AACC. "Today, the community college continues the process of making higher education available to a maximum number of people at 1,166 public and independent community colleges."

Mercer County Community College will be celebrating Community College Month with numerous activities and events, including the following:

April 10, 2:30 p.m.: Nurse Educator's Tea, The Conference Center, Room 125.

April 11, 6 p.m.: Spring Open House, Student Center. Free and open to the public. Details here.

April 12, noon: MCCC Professor Mel Leipzig will lecture on Austrian painting and architecture in the early 20th Century, Communications Building, Room 110. Free and open to the public. Details here.

April 12, 6 to 8 p.m.: "A Chocolate Affair" will celebrate the Physical Therapist Assistant Program's tenth anniversary and raise funds for program scholarships, The Conference Center. Details here.

April 14, 2 and 4 p.m.: "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" children's show, Kelsey Theatre. Details here.

April 16, 5:30 p.m.: Transfer Workshop for part-time & evening students, Student Center first floor.

April 17, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Nursing Transfer/Career Fair, Student Center cafeteria

April 18, 6 p.m.: Aviation Program Career Night, Student Center. Free and open to the public. Details here.

April 19, noon, Craig Paulenich presents "Drift Of The Hunt" poetry reading as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series, Communications Building, room 110. Details here.

April 20, 9 a.m.: The Career Training Institute's "Dress for Success Workshop," James Kerney Campus, Kerney Hall.

April 20-29: "Woyzeck!" will be performed by MCCC's Drama students, Kelsey Theatre. The audience is invited to join the actors in the lobby before the show for streudel and coffee to celebrate the world premiere of this new translation of a famous 1836 German drama by Georg Buchner. Details here.

April 26, 12 to 4 p.m.: Advertising Design students present their final marketing campaigns to the New Jersey Governor's Council on Mental Health, Student Center, room 108.

April 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Mercer's Center for Continuing Studies hosts the Administrative Professionals Day Conference, with continental breakfast, buffet luncheon, speakers and workshops, The Conference Center. Details here.

April 27, 5:30 p.m.: Awards Banquet for PASS (Programs for Academic and Student Success), Student Center.
