WINDSOR, N.J. -- When Jamil Faridy, a long-time member of Mercer
County Community College's Foundation Board, learned of Kelsey
Theatre's need for a new piano, he purchased a new Remington upright
and had it delivered to the theatre, located on the college's
West Windsor campus.
It
was during a casual conversation with Kelsey Theatre Director
Kitty Getlik that Mr. Faridy heard about the theatre's need. The
sound board in the theatre's old piano had cracked, making rehearsals
and performances difficult. "Mr. Faridy came to our rescue,"
Getlik said. "We are so happy to have this beautiful new
piano. We are now rehearsing with several different theatre companies
for upcoming musicals, and we will be able to continue to offer
a different show every two weeks."
Mr.
Faridy, an accomplished pianist himself, is chairman of the Boheme
Opera of New Jersey, and is retired from the architectural firm
Faridy Veisz Fraytak of Ewing. Over the past 17 years he has raised
more than $500,000 for Mercer County Community College student
scholarships. From 1962 to 1967 he was an adjunct professor of
architecture at Mercer. Since then he has been a volunteer member
of the college's Architectural Advisory Commission. He is also
a painter and donates his paintings to MCCC's annual silent auction,
which supports student scholarships.
