MCCC
to Host College Goal Sunday Feb. 10 WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- On Sunday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m., Mercer County Community College's James Kerney Campus will be the local site for the third annual New Jersey College Goal Sunday. Held at seven sites across the state, the day is dedicated to providing low-income students with assistance in filing their financial aid forms for college. The snow date will be Feb. 24. MCCC's James Kerney Campus is located at 120 North Broad (corner of Academy Street) in downtown Trenton. All are invited to attend, and no reservations are required. Financial aid officers at Mercer and the state's six other locations will be on hand to assist families in filling out their forms, and to give them a better understanding of the financial aid process. One $500 educational award (to be used for fall college enrollment) will be given out at each site at the conclusion of the day to one student who attends. Last year more than 160 volunteers from the financial aid community assisted more than 500 families with their financial aid forms. The event is funded by a grant from the Lumina Foundation and sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Financial Aid Administrators (NJASFAA) and New Jersey's Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA). "HESAA is proud to be a partner with NJASFAA in this worthwhile endeavor. Our mission is to provide New Jersey students with the financial and information resources to make college accessible and affordable," said E. Michael Angulo, Executive Director of HESAA. "College Goal Sunday is just one more way HESAA can help New Jersey's families." "College Goal Sunday would not be possible without the support of the higher education community, especially all the hard working financial aid administrators who are volunteering their Sunday to help these students," said Debra Wulff, statewide coordinator for College Goal Sunday. "We are also appreciative of each of our host colleges, without whose support College Goal Sunday would be impossible." College Goal Sunday is a nationwide project, which began in Indiana in 1989 and has since expanded to nearly 40 states to date. Its premise is simple; to encourage more students, especially those from low-income communities, to file their financial aid forms, called a FAFSA. This program is run entirely by volunteers and a grant from the Lumina Foundation. College Goal Sunday Sites: Camden
