April
is Community College Month
Mercer is preparing to celebrate Community College
Month with a full slate of activities. Highlights include recognition
of outstanding students during the April 23 Board of Trustees meeting,
and a special event for student veterans. Details here.
“Explore
Mercer” Open House April 22
Future students of all ages are invited to "Explore
Mercer" at an open house for the community
Wednesday, April 22, 6 p.m. at MCCC's Student Center cafeteria, West Windsor
Campus. The college will feature
academic programs, student services and student success. Credit program
registration for the summer and fall semesters is now open. More here.
Summer
Camp Registration is Underway
Spring is here and registration for MCCC's Camp
College, Sports Camps, Tomato Patch Visual and Performing Arts Workshops,
and Specialty Camps is underway for the 2009 season. Camps
for children ages 6-16 commence June 22 and run through August 14 on Mercer's
West Windsor Campus. Before and after-camp care is available for all programs.

The
Center for Continuing Studies Announces Spring/Summer Offerings
In an effort to assist those seeking to upgrade
their skills in this difficult economy, Mercer's Center for Continuing
Studies is offering an expanded list of noncredit classes and programs
this spring and summer. Examples include "Animal Control Officer,"
"ServSave Food Safety Manager," and "Finding New Donors
for Funding." Click here

Career
Program Information Sessions Help the Unemployed
In order to assist community members during these
difficult economic times, Mercer's Center for Continuing Studies is offering
free Career Information Sessions on April 24 and May 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The
Virtual College Wins National Award
The Instructional Technology Council presented MCCC's
Virtual College team with the "Outstanding Technical Support and
Service in ELearning" award at a recent conference. According
to Assistant Dean Debbie Kell, the award came after an extensive application
process. "The judges made specific note of the creativity and enthusiasm
evident in our initiatives and remarked upon special areas," she

MCCC's
Student Newspaper Earns Six State Awards
The College Voice, the student newspaper of MCCC,
has earned six awards from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Foundation
in its annual statewide competition judged by news professionals -- First
Place for General Excellence for a two-year college and Second Place for
Layout and Design, plus four individual awards. More here.
Morgan
Stanley Foundation Donates in Recognition of MCCC Volunteer
Randy Jones, an experienced financial advisor to MCCC's Foundation Board,
has given his time and expertise for many years to help guide the college's
investment and scholarship committees. In recognition of his efforts,
the Morgan Stanley Foundation has made a generous contribution of $1,500
to Mercer's General Scholarship Fund. Scholarships awarded through this
fund help a variety of students in need.
Student
Wins $5,000 Guistwhite Scholarship
Susana Sanchez was recently selected as a Phi
Theta Kappa Guistwhite Scholar, one of 20 students chosen from a national
pool of 400 applicants. The scholarship includes $5,000 toward baccalaureate
studies. A Liberal Arts major and
an Honors Program student, Sanchez is editor-in-chief of Mercer's student
newspaper, the College Voice. More here

Dinner Dance A Big Success
Thanks
to many generous supporters, MCCC's Scholarship Dinner Dance on March
7 was highly successful. Event chair
Nina Melker of The Bank of Princeton and her committee orchestrated an
elegant evening with the "On a Sea Cruise" theme and a successful
silent auction. All proceeds will help deserving students pay for their
college education. Three long-time supporters
of MCCC were honored. More here

Radiography Students Score Above National and State
Averages
May 2008 graduates of Mercer's Radiography program earned a mean score
of 87.7% on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national
certification exam -- higher than both national and state averages. The
passing percentage for first-time examinees was 94%, also higher than
the national average. Based upon graduate and employer surveys, 94% of
the class of 2008 secured employment within six months of graduation.
Flight Fairs April 4 and 25 to Benefit Winning MCCC
Team
Faculty and flight instructors from MCCC's Aviation program will offer
scenic plane rides over Mercer County at Flight Fairs on two Saturdays:
April 4 and April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trenton-Mercer Airport.
(Rain dates are Sundays, April 5 and April 26.)
