ARRT Responds to Article Questioning Low-Dose Radiation's Long Term Effects on Patients and Practitioners

An articles published in late 2015 by the American Journal of Clinical Oncology questioned the validity behind the concept of the linear non-threshold dose response relationship model as applied to radiation doses utilized in medical imaging.  The model is the basis of the current protection practice philosophy known as ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable).  The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the premier certification board for radiologic technologists in the United States, weighed in recently and called upon all practitioners to continue to regard all doses of ionizing radiation as potentially harmful and to utilize practices that protect patients and themselves from unecessary exposure during procedures.  Click here to read the ARRT's response.
