The Technology Certificates allow students to specialize their A.A.S. degree in a following areas:

Computer Network Technology – Microsoft specialization certification

Computer Network Technology – Cisco specialization certification

Computer Network Technology – Security specialization certification

Computer Network Technology – Microsoft specialization

Students who successfully specialize in Computer Network Technology - Microsoft will be able to:

• install, configure, upgrade, manage, and support LAN software and hardware in a Windowsenvironment;

• understand how networking concepts are implemented in Windows and apply them to support a network;

• configure Windows on stand-alone and client computers that are part of a workgroup or domain;

• apply standards and protocols such as IP, DHCP, and DNS to build networks;

• demonstrate an understanding of network security;

• identify the objectives of the MCSA examinations.

Computer Network Technology – Cisco specialization

Students who successfully specialize in Computer Network Technology - Cisco will be able to:

• install, configure, upgrade, manage, and support LAN hardware and ISO software in a Ciscoenvironment;

• understand how networking concepts are implemented in network with Cisco routers and switches;

• configure Cisco equipment for LANs, MANs, and WANs;

• configure Cisco routers and switches to implement standard communications protocols;

• demonstrate an understanding of network security;

• identify the objectives of the CCNA examination.

Computer Network Technology – Security specialization

Students who successfully specialize in Computer Network Technology - Security will be able to:

• recognize and apply strategies and tools to address various computer network security issues;

• implement intrusion detection, firewalls, packet filters, signatures, wireless and border security, VPNs, access control, cryptography, authentication, and other security protocols;

• establish communications and infrastructure security in an operational and organizational environment;

• identify the objectives of CompTIA’s Security+, SANS SCNP, and other examinations.

Programming Technology

Students who wish to pursue a career in programming, systems analysis, or database administration should consider the A.S. degree in Information Systems, which is designed as a transfer curriculum. Most programming, systems analysis, and database administration careers with area businesses require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

Students who successfully specialize in Programming Technology will be able to:

• apply procedural and object oriented technologies to implement interactive programs;

• program in at least two computer programming languages that are regularly used in area businesses;

• design and implement simple databases and write programs that open, read, update, delete, and close such databases.

Computer User Support Technology

Students who successfully specialize in Computer User Support Technology will be able to:

• troubleshoot and maintain client hardware and software;

• train and help personnel to use professional business productivity software;

• clearly and concisely explain the use of software features in person and over a telephone;

• assist in the evaluation and implementation of new or upgraded applications software;

• take and pass the MSDST and the MSOS examinations.
