Uploading Your Images to the Bulletin Board:
So you've gotten the hang of using the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word,
and "saving as html". That wasn't too bad, was it?
You'll probably want to save your "math" files in a special folder or directory.
You might want to use "temp" or create one especially for this purpose.
(You should use the same folder all the time. That way the mathematical
images you create will be numbered sequentially as they are saved.) Look
in the folder that you saved to right now. You should see some files
labeled "Img00001.gif", "Img00002.gif" and so on. Those
are the pictures (the image files) of your math that you created with Equation
Editor. Those image files will be the ones that you upload!
Print out this page, and let's try to get one of the math problems that you
created up on the bulletin board.
-
Choose to Post
A Question for the On Line Math Whiz.
-
Let's compose a question for practice: Click on
"Practice Uploading Images". (The
messages posted in this area will NOT be responded to as real inquiries.
So practice away without fear! In the future, you would choose
a category that represents your question.
-
Type Testing ... 1, 2, 3. So you
type your text inquiry before you think about the math image.
-
We need to let the bulletin board software know that you intend to upload
an image file. This is how you do it.
-
Type: \image{radical in
denominator} (Don't forget that backslash at the beginning.)
-
(If this were for real, you'd put some kind of description of the problem
that you are uploading inside the braces{}, for example:
\image{factoring} or
\image{quadratic formula} The
key is using the command exactly:
\image{description})
-
Now click "Post/Preview".
-
You'll see your text (Testing ... 1, 2,
3) and an icon showing where your image will be
placed. The icon will say "Your image here."
-
Click "Post".
-
Click "Browse".
-
IMPORTANT!! In the window that opens, change
"Files of type" from
"html" to "all
files".
-
Find the folder into which you saved your image files, and click on the image
file that you created and wish to upload. DO NOT CHOOSE THE DOCUMENT
FILENAME, CHOOSE THE IMAGE FILENAME. ie.
"Img00001.gif"
-
Click "Open".
-
Click "Upload".
There! Do you see it? Did it work? TA-DAH!
Congratulations on a job well done! You're ready to roll!
