PROFESSOR KALINOWSKI PUTS HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS AND LEADS BY EXAMPLE IN TWO NPC BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS! Prof. John Kalinowski, MCCC's Exercise Science Coordinator and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, put his bodybuilding trunks back on for the first time in 10 yrs. this summer. With the influence of one his best friends and fellow competitor, Mike Ritter, and the support of his family, John competed in the Mid-Atlantic Classic B1odybuilding Championship in East Brunswick and the South Jersey Physique Championships in Atlantic City. John decided to enter the Mid-Atlantic as his comback show, since it was the first bodybuilding show that he had ever competed in (back in 1996). He placed 3rd in in New Brunswick and 4th in Atlantic City in the Lightweight Open class, which is designed as a 1 yr. drug free class and/or for those who have placed first in a novice class. He also competed in the Master's (35-45) class, which is a class composed of competitors that are 35-45 yrs of age and from weight classes ranging from Lightweight to Super Heavyweights. In both shows, John placed 4th. Not bad for an old man that decided to compete 9 months prior to competition and who prides himself on being a lifetime natural (drug-free) competitor. PICTURES WILL BE POSTED SOON!
CURRENT MCCC EXERCISE SCIENCE STUDENT, IAN CABRERA, IS OFFERED JOB WITH THE NJDOC HEALTH & FITNESS PROGRAM!!! Ian Cabrera is expecting to complete his degree requirements this year as a MCCC Exercise Science major. What he didn't expect was to be offered a job with the NJDOC while he was completing his internship with them this Fall. According to Mike Ritter, NJDOC Director of Special Projects, Ian has "followed in the foot steps of Rob Thompson (MCCC Exercise Science grad currently at Georgia Southern University). Rob left big shoes to be filled. But, Ian has proven to be an asset that the members and staff are very excited about. He has done a great job." Ian's hard work and determination to be the best personal trainer and coach possible will pay-off in a big way as he begins his tenure as an employee of the NJDOC this January. GREAT JOB IAN!!! Continue to believe in yourself and stay focused on your goals! 2008 MCCC EXERCISE SCIENCE STUDENTS ON RECORD TO CRUSH ALL PREVIOUS STUDENTS IN FUNDS RAISED FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION HEART WALK!!! This years Exercise Science students have raised $2160 to date. An additional $200-500 is expected to be handed in by the end of October. This would bring this years total to as much as $2600, which is $900 more than last years class. The college total is expected to be around $7000 for this year. Therefore, the Exercise Science Program will be responsible for about 35% of the MCCC total contribution. In three years, the exercise science program has raised about $5500 for the American Heart Association. GREAT JOB!
MCCC EXERCISE SCIENCE STUDENTS GO BEHIND THE BARS AT NJDOC, AGAIN!!! On Oct. 8th, the MCCC Exercise Science program was invited to participate in the NJDOC Health & Fitness Center's 1st Anniversary. Kristin Orlandi, Tannya Hemigway, Ian Cabrera (current intern), and John Kalinowski assisted by conducting body composition and heart disease risk assessments for this well attended celebration. There definitely was a difference this year in comparison to the grand opening event that the exercise science program asssited with last year. It was very evident that the health and fitness program has become a part of the culture at the DOC. This was very rewarding and encouraging to see, since the MCCC Exercise Science program has been so instrumental in the development and daily operations of the NJDOC Health and Fitness program.
