West
Windsor, N.J. - It's time to dance to your health! On Monday,
Oct. 3, the Student Government Association (SGA) at Mercer
County Community College invites the community to participate
in a "Zumbathon" benefit from 12 to 1 p.m.
in the gym on the college's West
Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The event will
feature multiple instructors who teach at area gyms who are
volunteering their time. They include Donna Friel, Laura Shappnus
and MCCC faculty member Helen Tanzini. Proceeds
will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.
According to Tanzini, a chemistry professor at the college,
the popular zumba exercise routines are easy to learn and
fun for all. "You don't have to be a salsa dancer to
enjoy it!," she says. Participants are asked to wear
sneakers; water will be provided.
Says
SGA President Shawn Khan, "Recognizing that Type 2 diabetes
is becoming an epidemic in the United States, with growing
numbers of young people affected by the disease, we decided
to host this event to remind everyone that exercise is one
of the keys to battling diabetes and maintaining good health.
We hope people will come out, work out, and have fun for a
good cause."
The suggested donation is $5. Proceeds will benefit the American
Diabetes Association. No RSVP is necessary. For more information,
contact Danielle Garruba at garrubad@mccc.edu.
