William Shakespeare's comedic play within a play unfolds as the tensions of male chauvinism meet the 16th century's version of women's lib. Protagonist Petruchio, a poverty-stricken gentleman from Verona, journeys to Padua in search of a wealthy wife. There he encounters the fiery, unruly Katharina, who leads him on a merry chase before agreeing to marry him. Their honeymoon becomes a clash of wits and insults, with Kate as determined to maintain her independence as Petruchio is to "tame" her. Ultimately Kate comes to understand her mate's need for power and develops a strategy to keep both of them satisfied. This multi-themed play has been adapted numerous times for opera, stage, screen and musical theater, including Cole Porter's well-known version, "Kiss Me Kate."

Tickets for "Taming of the Shrew" are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students and children. Free parking is available next to the theater.
