MCCC's Kelsey Theatre Alive With
"The Sound of Music" July 13-22


The hills are alive once more as The Yardley Players present "The Sound of Music" at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre. Dates and show times for this classic family musical are: Fridays, July 13 and 20 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, July 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays, July 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is conveniently located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

This lively production by The Yardley Players provides an opportunity to introduce a whole new generation to one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The show depicts the gripping personal saga of Maria and the von Trapp family, set against the backdrop of the Nazi occupation of Austria leading up to World War II. The unforgettable musical score by Rodgers and Hammerstein includes such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Climb Every Mountain," and "Edelweiss." Winning the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1959, "The Sound of Music" was made into a hugely popular film that starred Julie Andrews and won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1965.

The cast stars Michaela Tomcho as Maria, Bill Pessel of Princeton as Captain von Trapp, Laureen Vinicombe as the Baroness Elsa Schraeder, and Walter Smyth as Max Detweiller. Featured as the von Trapp children are: Abby Coggins as Louisa, Jenn Jacobs as Liesl, Rachael McCleary as Brigitta, Paul McGlew as Friedrich, and David Szemis as Kurt. Anastasia Korbal and Karlee Sangiovanni share the role of Gretl. Kaitlyn Bader and Lindsay Bohon share the role of Marta. Michael Steele is Rolf.

Portraying the nuns are: Kathleen Kutalek as Sister Berthe, Shirley Murphy as Mother Abbess, Ashley Patrick as Sister Sophia, and Amy Zalot as Sister Margaretta. Also featured are Mike Almstedt, Linda Ashton, Mike Coggins, Jeannine Ducharme, Ashley Gruber, Carol Henderson, Michele Kole, Lindsay Kopp, Ed Korbal, Beverly Kuo-Hamilton, Jeanne La Polla, Joanna Latini, Marilyn Licciardello, Marsha Matrisciano, Howard Matter, Mary McCormick,Ken McCormick, Ron Sangiovanni, Amy Slothower, Dan Slothower, Ed Szemis, Eric Wagner, Wayne Wood.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students and children. Free parking is available next to the theater. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible and provides assisted listening devices upon request.
