"Prince and Pauper" Switch Roles in Family
Musical at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre Nov. 10-19

10/13/06

Two boys switch roles and get a new view of the world when "The Prince and the Pauper, the Musical" comes to MCCC's Kelsey Theatre. This swashbuckling full-length family musical is presented by Pierrot Productions Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is conveniently located on Mercer's West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road. An opening night reception will follow the Nov. 10 performance to give the audience a chance to meet the cast and crew.

Based on the Mark Twain classic and set in Medieval London, this is a tale of two look-alike boys who decide to switch places. Prince Edward longs for a break from the responsibilities of royalty, while the beggar boy, Tom Canty, is eager to experience the good life.

In rehearsal: Storm Hurwitz, left, is The Pauper and Duncan Gallagher is The Prince. Also pictured is Ed Correale as Father Andrew.

Complete with heroes and villains, and some thrilling sword fights, "The Prince and the Pauper" teaches a few lessons in the Twain tradition about being careful what you wish for. The show, which ran Off-Broadway at Lamb's Theatre in New York City in 2002, earned rave reviews for being fresh and appealing for the whole family.
