Kelsey Theatre Performers and Production Staff Rack Up Perry Nominations

9/20/05

On Broadway there are the Tony Awards. In New Jersey there are the Perry Awards.

Sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT), this year’s Perry Awards were presented at a gala ceremony on Sept. 18 before a crowd of 775 "theater people" at the Somerset Doubletree Hotel. NJACT reviewers attended 257 performances throughout New Jersey during the 2004-05 theater season. Eleven nominees hailed from theater companies that perform regularly at Kelsey Theatre.

Included among the honorees was Mercer’s own Kitty Getlik, who received three nominations: one for “Outstanding Ensemble Actress in a Play” for her role in Incorruptible, presented by Like 40 Productions; and two for “Outstanding Lighting Design” on The Foreigner, presented by Maurer Productions Onstage, and Seussical, the Musical, presented by Playful Theatre Productions.

Also recognized for their work at Kelsey Theatre were: Kevin Potucek for “Outstanding Lighting Design” on Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar and Grill, presented by Like 40 Productions; Tracey Antozzeski for “Outstanding Stage Management” on The Foreigner, presented by Maurer Productions Onstage; Dan Spalluto for “Outstanding Production of a Play” on Early one Evening at The Rainbow Bar and Grill, presented by Like 40 Productions; and David Maurio for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play” for Incorruptible, presented by Like 40 Productions.

Four young actors who perform at Kelsey were singled out for their work last year. Nominees included Ian Lowry and Alex Charwin for “Outstanding Youth Actor in a Play” for their roles in A Christmas Story, presented by the Pennington Players; Jordan Carroll for “Outstanding Youth Actor in a Musical” for his starring role in Oliver, presented by Playful Theatre; and Michaela Tomcho for “Outstanding Youth Actress in a Musical” for her role as Gertrude McFuzz in Seusscial, the Musical, presented by Playful Theatre Productions.

Many of the same talented actors will be back at Kelsey Theatre this season, along with numerous others who are equally deserving of recognition for excellence. Check out the new season at Kelsey Theatre here.
