West Windsor,
N.J. -- Feel the spirit of the holiday season when the New Jersey
Youth Ballet presents its family version of "The Nutcracker"
at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre. Danced almost
entirely by children and teens, this traditional Christmas ballet
is fully narrated and abridged for theater goers of all ages to
enjoy. Performances will take place Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.; Saturday,
Dec. 19 at 1 and 4 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1 and 4 p.m. Kelsey
Theatre is located on the college's West
Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Set in 19th
century Europe to the magical score by Tchaikovsky, the ballet features
wonderful Nutcracker moments, complete with dolls and sweets coming
to life, mice and toy soldiers doing battle, and snowflakes dancing
in a beautiful snow-covered forest. After each performance, children
and parents are invited on stage to meet the dancers, get autographs
and take photos.
Directed by
David Kieffer and Samantha Wyland, the New Jersey Youth Ballet is
based at the Dance Connection of Hillsborough and was started in
the fall of 2008 with a mission to bring dance to young people in
Central New Jersey and provide performance and training opportunities
for aspiring dancers. The dancers range in age from five to eighteen
years old and come from around the region. More information about
the company is available here.
