Celebrate the
holidays with the magic and majesty of "The Nutcracker,"
presented at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre. The Belle Mead Ballet presents
its unique, fully narrated version of the timeless holiday classic
Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 and 4 p.m.
Kelsey Theatre is conveniently located on Mercer's West
Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road. A "Toys for Tots"
drop-off box will be located in the theatre lobby through Dec. 19.
Adults and children alike will enjoy the easy-to-follow story line
set to the magnificent Tchaikovsky score, along with beautiful costumes
and graceful dances performed by the entire cast. At the end of
the show, younger audience members and parents are invited on stage
to meet their favorite dancers, who will be available to sign autographs.
David Kieffer is the Belle Mead Ballet's new ballet master and resident
choreographer. Kieffer has extensive experience as a teacher, dancer
and choreographer, including serving on the faculty of CAP 21 as
part of New York University's musical theatre program. He has performed
with companies in the United States and abroad, including New Jersey
Ballet and Noemi Lafrance, and also appeared in the feature film,
Center Stage.
Kieffer collaborates with Samantha Wyland, the company's new artistic
director, who served as assistant director since 2005. With a bachelor's
degree in Dance from DeSales University, Wyland has served as a
teacher and mentor for young children at various New Jersey studios,
joining the Belle Mead Ballet in 2002. In addition to "The
Nutcracker," she has choreographed and performed in "Cinderella,"
"Sleeping Beauty" and "The Wizard of Oz."
