“The Music Man” Marches Onto Kelsey Theatre Stage July 14-23

6/20/06

Fast-talking traveling salesman, “Professor” Harold Hill is at it again. Join The Yardley Players as they present the beloved family musical, “The Music Man,” at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre Fridays and Saturdays, July 14, 15 and 21 at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 22 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays, July 16 and 23 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on Mercer’s West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
When con man Harold Hill arrives in the sleepy town of River City, Iowa, he goes right to work convincing the townspeople that they must have a marching band to keep their boys out of trouble. Expensive instruments and uniforms follow. The only problem is that “Professor” Hill doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef and the townspeople are getting suspicious. Plus, he has made the mistake of falling for Marian, the town’s spinster librarian. When Harold is forced to face the music – literally – how will he prove himself to the town and the woman he loves?

Among the musical numbers that have become favorites among American show tunes are “Goodnight, My Someone,” “Till There Was You,” “Gary, Indiana,” “Shipoopi,” and the show-stopping “Seventy-Six Trombones.”
