Flapper-Era
Musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie," Comes to MCCC's Kelsey
Theatre Feb. 29-Mar. 9
1/24/08
The
glamour and excitement of the Roaring Twenties will be on full display
at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre when Playful Theatre Productions presents
the Tony-Award winning musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
Dates and show times for this funny, frothy tale of a small-town girl
in the big city are Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 29, Mar. 1, 7 and
8 at 8 p.m., and Sundays, Mar. 2 and 9 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is
located on the college's West
Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. An opening night reception
will be held Feb. 29 to give audience members an opportunity to meet
the cast and crew.
It's 1922, the era of flappers and sunny possibilities, especially
for women entering the workforce in droves. Millie Dillmount has just
arrived in New York City from Kansas. Sporting a new hairdo and fashions
befitting a thoroughly modern girl, she sets out to find a job and
a wealthy husband as soon as possible. Could Millie's future groom
be her handsome, if somewhat pretentious, boss, Trevor Grayson? But
Millie soon finds herself straying from her plan when she falls for
a charming, cheery paperclip salesman, Jimmy Smith, who is fun to
be with, but oh so poor. Plus, there's something strange going on
at her residence, the Priscilla Hotel for Women, where orphaned girls
have a habit of disappearing.
Starring in
"Thoroughly Modern Millie" are Lynn Shelton as Millie
Dillmount, Elizabeth Rzasa as Miss Dorothy Brown, Matt South as
