Mercer Dance Ensemble Gets Creative
At Kelsey Theatre May 17-18

4/22/08

Mercer County Community College invites area residents to experience the beauty, grace and power of contemporary dance when the Mercer Dance Ensemble presents "MDE Undercover" Saturday, May 17 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. The performance takes place at MCCC's Kelsey Theatre, located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Under the direction of Janell Byrne, the show features MCCC Dance students, along with semi-professional community dancers, in ten original numbers set to a range of music from classical to techno-jazz. In a style that incorporates elements of ballet, modern and jazz dance, the Mercer Dance Ensemble uses a whole body approach, emphasizing flexibility, strength, coordination, and fluid, lyrical movements.

Students who pursue dance at Mercer study jazz, ballet, and modern from the fundamentals to advanced instruction. With the benefit of small classes and individualized instruction, students may earn either an A.A. degree, which prepares them for transfer as juniors into bachelor of arts programs in Dance, or an A.F.A. degree in the Performing Arts, a transfer program in which they combine conservatory training in theatre, dance and music with education in the liberal arts and sciences.

Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for senior citizens and children. Free parking is available next to the theater. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible and provides assisted listening devices upon request. For a listing of adult and children's events for the remainder of the 2007-2008 season, see here or call the box office for a brochure.
