"Lazer
Vaudeville" will light up the stage at Mercer County Community's
Kelsey Theatre Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2 and 4 p.m. Displaying breath-taking
magic that glows in the dark, the cast will ask audience members
to join in the excitement of this fast-paced acrobatics extravaganza.
Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West
Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Lazer Vaudeville's master of ceremonies is a seven-foot-tall, fire-breathing
dragon named Alfonzo. He will lead a cast of magicians, including
a wizard who creates illusions with laser beams, a neon cowboy who
kicks up a luminescent rope-spinning display, and more. Founded
by Carter Brown, Lazer Vaudeville has toured the United States since
1987. Brown developed his passion for vaudeville while studying
theatre and art at the University of Vermont. Before forming his
own company, he was a clown with Ringling Brothers, Barnum &
Bailey Circus, and a solo juggler with Carden International Circus,
where he also designed sound and lights.
Internationally acclaimed as a master of his craft, Brown demonstrates
the endangered art of hoop rolling, where up to ten hoops roll around
the juggler's body and circle the stage as if taking on a life of
their own. Brown collaborates with performers Cindy Marvell and
Nicholas Flair to fly indoor kites and juggle running chainsaws.
The troupe also creates pinwheel illusions and percussive sounds
with South African bolas, bounces balls off airborne drums, and
defies the laws of probability by passing up to ten clubs in an
engaging display of expertise.
In the winter of 2005, Lazer Vaudeville opened at the John Houseman
Theatre on 42nd Street in the heart of New York City's theater district.
The show ran for seven months and then moved to the larger Lamb's
Theater in Times Square. The show has also been performerd at the
Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and has been featured
in PBS specials.
Tickets are $12 for all and may be purchased online
