Theater Reunion Is Setting of "Follies"
At MCCC's Kelsey Theatre Nov. 16-25

10/25/07

A crumbling theater scheduled for demolition is the setting for "Follies," a nostalgic look at the lives of theater people. Pierrot Productions presents this classic Stephen Sondheim musical at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 16, 17, 23 and 24 at 8 p.m., and Sundays, Nov. 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on Mercer's West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Winner of seven Tony Awards, "Follies" revisits the glory days of the "Weisman Follies," a musical revue based on the legendary Ziegfeld Follies that played between the two World Wars. Among the performers returning for one last chance to celebrate their theater and their youth are two troubled couples - Buddy and Sally Durant Plummer, and Ben and Phyllis Rogers Stone. The reunion brings up old wounds and forces the aging performers to consider how far their lives have diverged from their youthful dreams. Set to a beautiful musical score, the former Follies girls recreate some of their most memorable numbers, with Sally and Phyllis shadowed by ghosts of their younger selves.

Starring in "Follies" are: Patricia Bartlett as Sally Durant Plummer; Allwyn Baskin as Benjamin Stone; Ashley Opalka as Phyllis Rogers Stone; and Fred Gropper as Buddy Plummer. Vicky Czarnik stars as Carlotta Campion. Starring as the principal actors' "younger" selves are: Tess Ammerman as Young Phyllis, Antwan Michael as Young Ben, Keith Nielsen as Young Buddy, and Elizabeth Rzasa as Young Sally.
