When
a boy-emperor "bares" his soul to the subjects of his
kingdom, a royal mess ensues. Join Maurer Productions OnStage for
the hilariously charming "Emperor's New Clothes,"
coming to MCCC's Kelsey Theatre. Dates and show times are: Friday,
Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14 at 2
and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is conveniently located on Mercer's West
Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Composed by the talented musical team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn
Ahrens, creators of "Seussical" and "Ragtime,"
this delightful adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen tale adds
to the familiar story with songs, dance numbers and a castle full
of colorful characters. Emperor Marcus the Third wonders how he
can possibly run an empire at the tender age of 14. In an attempt
to appear wiser than his years, he decides to follow the credo that
"clothes make the man," but soon finds himself at the
center of an embarrassing hoax. Marcus can only recover his stature
after a scrub boy helps him embrace a credo of a kinder sort - that
a good heart matters most.
The cast of "The Emperor's New Clothes" features Eric
Leiggi as Emperor Marcus, Dominic Sannelli as Arno the Scrub Boy,
Monica Nordeen as the Swindler, Rosie Karlin as Deena the Royal
Clothes Maker, and Scott Karlin as William the Royal Advisor. The
cast also features Alex Charwin, Judy Berwick, Kelsey Sheehan, Danielle
Standifer, Katie Correll, Kathleen Kutalek, Cindy and Jamie George,
Tara Dorgan, Caroline Maurer, and Debbie Ryan, John Russell, Carol
Jean Feinstein, Jake Bazel, Zachery McDaniel, Jett Bohonko, Jessie
Dubin, Ashley Goldstein, and Kristen Robinson.
