Internationally Renowned Cartoonist Presents
"Image of America" at MCCC March 10


Joe Szabo, an internationally recognized political cartoonist, will present "Image of America" at Mercer County Community College on Tuesday, March 10 at 12 noon. In his talk, Szabo will focus on his current study of America's political image around the world from the perspective of foreign cartoonists. Presented as part of MCCC's Distinguished Lecture Series, the lecture takes place on Mercer's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road, Communications Building, Room 109.

A former editor, art director, and cartoonist with national newspapers and magazines in the United States and Europe, Szabo was the organizer and chairman of an international cartoon festival held in Budapest, Hungary that drew professionals from more than 30 countries. He launched his cartooning career in 1979, serving as the second ranking editor of Hungary's newspaper, Magyar Nemzet. A year later he defected to Germany, and then moved to the United States in 1981. He has launched a variety of print and electronic publications, mostly dedicated to the fine and diverse representation of cartoon art.

Among Szabo's works is the acclaimed book series, The Finest International Political Cartoons of Our Time, which features socio-political cartoons from nearly 60 countries by many world-renowned cartoonists, including 14 Pulitzer Prize recipients. His most widely recognized publication, Witty World International Cartoon Magazine, was circulated in 103 countries for more than a decade. Szabo is the recipient of 12 international awards, including an International Press Prize from Belgium and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Mexico.
