Magical, Musical World of “CATS” Comes to
MCCC’s Kelsey Theatre Mar. 24-Apr. 2

3/06

“Cats,” the magical musical homage to the feline world, comes to Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre in March. Presented by Playful Theatre Productions, dates and show times for this area premiere are: Fridays and Saturdays, March 24, 25, 31 and April 1 at 8 p.m; and Saturdays and Sundays, March 25, 26, April 1 and 2 at 2 p.m. (Saturday matinees have been added due to the expected popularity of the show.) Kelsey Theatre is located on MCCC’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. An opening night reception will follow the March 24 performance to give audience members a chance to meet the cast and crew.

Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score, “Cats” ran on Broadway for 18 years, totaling 7,485 performances. Playful Theatre Productions has gathered a talented, spirited cast of actors for this extraordinarily popular show, based on T.S. Eliot's collection of whimsical poems, Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats (1939).

The Kelsey stage will be transformed into a garbage-strewn alley populated by the “Jellicle” tribe – the narrator “Munkustrap,” the wise leader “Old Deuteronomy,” the playful prankster “Rum Tum Tugger,” the shunned "Grizabella, The Glamour Cat," the hefty "Bustopher Jones," and many more. Expressing themselves in imaginative dance and glorious music, the cats croon their way into our hearts with unforgettable songs like “Memory.”

Featured in “Cats” are: Sasha Alexandria, Tom Bessellieu, John Boccanfuso, Jessica Cohen, Katie Correll, Shane Courtney, Vicky Czarnik, KorenZander James DuBeq, Holly Eaton, Frank Ferrara, Alexander Hernandez, Sarah Krauss, Eryn LeCroy, Pia Leone, Cathy Liebars, Kevin Palardy, , Molly Restine, Michael Schiumo, Matt South, Caitlin Tierney, Michaela Tomcho, Dani Tucci-Juraga, Ben Walker, Chelsea Wargo, Heather Weiss, and Alyssa Wilkins. The show is directed and choreographed by Pam Pisani, with musical direction by Nick Cheng.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students and children. Free parking is available next to the theatre. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-584-9444. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible and provides assisted listening devices upon request.  For a complete listing of adult and children’s events, visit the Kelsey webpage or call the box office for a brochure.
