Ed Carmien Receives Two Science Fiction Awards

English faculty member Ed Carmien received special recognition at the Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA)'s annual convention in Kansas City, Missouri, July 6-8. Ed received an award for his short story, "The Beautiful Accident," which won the Heinlein Centennial Short Fiction Writing Contest in the Professional Division. This year the SFRA event was held in conjunction with the Heinlein Centennial celebration, honoring Robert Heinlein (1907-1988) for his contributions to science fiction and the space industry.

Ed also received the SFRA's 2007 Mary Kay Bray Award for his review of "Space Opera Renaissance" (ed. by Hartwell and Cramer), which appeared in issue #277 of the SFRA Review. Ed was selected as the association's fiction review editor last fall.
