N.J. -- The Center for Continuing Studies at Mercer County Community
College offers a variety of courses this spring and summer designed
to enhance career opportunities. Community residents will find a
wide variety of affordable, short-term noncredit courses. Most classes
are held evenings and weekends at the college's West
Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
From May through August, the center offers computer classes in the
latest software at every level, ranging from the basics to advanced
professional certifications. Microsoft Office 2007 courses
include Quickstart, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Certification
courses will be offered in Oracle and Cisco, regarded as market-leading
software applications. Other specialized courses include QuickBooks,
Web Design and Developer, InDesign CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, Intro to
HTML, Advanced HTML, Advanced Flash CS4, Advanced Illustrator CS4,
Photoshop and more.
A number of courses are offered in the health care field. Approved
by the N.J. Department of Health and Senior Services, the 90-hour
"Certified Nurse Aide" course runs from June 5 - Sept.
11 and will prepare students to take the state's Certified Nursing
Assistant exam. Those already certified will get additional credentials
in the 10-hour "Certified Home Health Aide for CNAs" June
15, 16 and 17. "Basic Dental Office Skills" will be held
June 16-17. An "EKG Technician Certification" course is
offered June 7 - July 28. This 50-hour program prepares students
to work as EKG technicians and to take the ASPT-Electrocardiograph
(EKG) Technician exam and other national certification exams. Other
popular certificate programs beginning in May and June are "Gerontology,"
"Medical Billing/Coding Specialist" and "Pharmacy
Technician."
To ensure compliance with state regulations for those in the food
service business, ServeSafe® Certification Food Safety Manager
Exam Prep and Exam" will be held June 7 and 14, and for Spanish
speakers from June 7 - 28 (four sessions). Those in need of the
refresher course can take "ServeSafe® Recertification"
on July 19 (with an exam at the end of the session).
