With show-stopping musical numbers and a colorful cast of characters, "Beauty and the Beast" tells the story of Belle, a bright young woman trapped in a small, provincial town. When her father Maurice gets lost in the woods, Belle goes after him. Arriving at a secluded castle, she discovers that a beast has imprisoned Maurice, and she bravely decides to trade her freedom for her father's. Belle finds that the Beast is a lonely and miserable creature, not understanding that he too is trapped. A prince who is under the spell of an enchantress, he must find love and be loved in return -- or remain a beast forever. Time is running out. Will Belle help save the Beast or will he be doomed for all eternity? Based on the 1991 animated Disney film, the show has proven wildly popular, with 5,464 Broadway performances between 1994 and 2007, and productions performed around the world.
