Alumna Jennifer French Is Two-Time MCCC Grad
Making a Healthy Difference in Nursing Career

While working as a medical receptionist in Nashville, Tenn., Jennifer French's burgeoning interest in nursing took root. Always fascinated by the human condition, French was well-grounded academically and ready for new challenges. Prior to moving to Tennessee, she had earned an A.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences from MCCC in 1998 and a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Rutgers University in 2001.

When she returned to New Jersey, she again enrolled at Mercer to pursue her new career goal. She earned her A.S. in Nursing from Mercer's Cooperative Program in 2007. (The program is a collaboration with Capital Health System and St. Francis Medical Center.)

Jennifer French has found her
calling in nursing.

"Mercer was inexpensive, convenient and flexible," said French. "I could work and go to school at the same time. Mercer also allowed me to use credits from my previous degree toward my second MCCC degree. It has changed my life."

French currently works at Capital Health System in Trenton as a registered nurse on the oncology/medical surgical floor, where she collaborates with all members of the health care team to give the highest quality care to patients and their family members. "I provide informational and emotional support to patients and their families to help them set goals as they decide their plan of care. I teach them how to take care of themselves. Nursing is challenging, yet rewarding. Each and every day is different. It leaves me eager to see what the next day will bring."
French looks back at her team of nursing instructors at MCCC, all of whom went above and beyond to extend themselves to her. "All of them had a positive impact on me," French said. "They taught me the skills I needed to learn and use in my life every day."
