Kelsey Theatre Companies Nominated for 16 Perry Awards; Four Selected for Honors

10/20/15

West Windsor, N.J. – In the world of community theater, nothing is more special to production companies than pulling together as a team of volunteers and creating magic on stage.  Of course, recognition from their theater peers is sweet too.

The twelve companies that staged productions at Kelsey Theatre last season garnered 16 nominations from the New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT).  Four individuals earned top honors at the NJACT dinner in September.

Kelsey award winners included: Kate Pinner, of PinnWorth Productions, for Outstanding Costume Design of a Play for “A Man for All Seasons” and Kevin Palardy, of The Pennington Players, as Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play for “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”  Two members of the Kelsey Theatre family, John M Maurer and brother Dan Maurer, of Maurer Productions OnStage, were inducted into the NJACT Hall of Fame. Both Maurer brothers are Mercer alumni.

Kelsey Theatre Artistic Director M. Kitty Getlik is delighted that Kelsey companies continue to get well-deserved accolades. “These are incredibly talented, dedicated and determined people.  We are so grateful that they have chosen to make Kelsey Theatre their home stage,” she said.

Getlik added, “The Perry Awards are a reminder of the amazing contributions of all the actors, musician and production teams that perform at Kelsey.  We are truly lucky to have them adding to the rich culture of our community.”

Each year approximately 200 shows around the state receive roughly 400 reviews by NJACT volunteers to determine those most deserving of recognition in more than 30 categories.  “With over 200 productions, it is very difficult to even get a nomination,” Getlik notes.

The Kelsey nominee also list included: John M. Maurer (Maurer Production OnStage) for Outstanding Direction of a Play for “Lend Me a  Tenor”; Michael Almstedt (Yardley Players) for Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical for “Meet Me in St. Louis”; Anthony Remer (Maurer Productions OnStage) for Outstanding Costume Design of a Play for “Lend Me a Tenor”; Kate Pinner, Alex Kresge, Michelle Rittmann and Debbie O’Hara (Playful Theatre Productions) for Outstanding Costume Design of a Musical for “CATS”; Kyrus Keenan Westcott (Pennington Players) for Outstanding Choreography for “Into the Woods”; Kate Pinner (PinnWorth Productions) for Outstanding Scenic Design of a Play for “A Man for All Seasons”; Andrew Timmes (Maurer Productions OnStage) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for “Lend Me a Tenor”; John Shanken-Kaye (PinnWorth Productions) for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play for “A Man for All Seasons”; Justin Derry (Pennington Players) for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play for “Picasso at the Lapin Agile”; Laurie Hardy (Maurer Productions OnStage) for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play for “Lend Me a Tenor”; Shealyn Davis (Yardley Players) for Outstanding Youth Actress in a Musical for “Meet Me in St. Louis”; John M.
