West Windsor, N.J. – Just how far should a picky kid go to avoid eating yucky food? That’s the dilemma for the young hero of “The Monster Who Ate My Peas,” an original musical to be presented by ArtsPower National Touring Theatre at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Based on the multi-award winning book written by Danny Schnitzlein, the show is adapted for the stage by Greg Gunning, with music and orchestrations by Richard DeRosa. ArtsPower's newest musical features 13 songs in a funny and poignant retelling of the story of young Danny, a boy who doesn't want to eat his peas. When a crafty monster appears beneath his kitchen table, Danny is ready to negotiate a deal if the monster will make those dreaded peas disappear. First the monster demands his soccer ball and then his bike. But with the monster's third request, Danny must consider parting with something he holds most dear. The time has come for Danny to define his values and assert his strength.
