West Windsor, N.J. – Professors Craig Coenen (History), Daniel D'Arpa (Spanish) and Gianna Durso-Finley (Sociology) have been selected to participate in a two-year project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. "Bridging Historias" will be devoted to infusing Hispanic culture into the community college curriculum.
On Oct. 18, the MCCC faculty members and Dean of Liberal Arts Robin Schore attended the first workshop, which included discussions with historians and authors whose area of specialization is Hispanic history. Held at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan, the full-day gathering drew 50 faculty from community colleges in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
The three professors are currently designing an inter-disciplinary short-term study abroad trip to the Yucatan Peninsula for Winter 2014. In addition, they plan to present professional development workshops for their colleagues to share the pedagogic approaches and techniques they learn through the Bridging Historias program.
