Spring Sports Post Season Update; All-Region and All-GSAC Teams Announced for Softball and Men's Tennis

West Windsor, N.J. -- MCCC's three spring sports teams are still active in the post-season.

Men's tennis placed third at the Region 19 Championships April 29-30 at the Mercer County Tennis Center, earning them a berth in the NJCAA National Championships, to be played in Plano, TX, May 15-20. Three singles players were named to the Second Team All-Region: sophomore Travis McCaughan at No. 4 singles; freshman Travis Virgil at No. 5 singles; and freshman Adam Czaplinski at No. 6 singles. Czaplinski and Josh Partyka earned Second Team All-Region honors at No. 3 doubles. Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) selections were also announced, with honors going to the player/players who won the most matches in the conference at their flight. Travis McCaughan was named to the All-GSAC Team at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. Juan Ramirez and partner McCaughan made All-GSAC at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Vikings' softball team will be playing in the Region 19 Final Four this Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8, at the County College of Morris. The women open against Del Tech Owens at noon on Saturday in the double elimination tournament. Burlington and Morris will also compete.

All-Region and All-GSAC teams were announced for softball. Freshman utility player Angela Marinos was named to the All-Region First Team and was voted the No. 2 Player in the Region. She was also selected to the First Team All-GSAC. Sophomore infielder Ryan Niatas was also selected to the First Team All-Region and First Team All-GSAC. Freshman infielder Mary Rossi was named Second Team All-Region and First Team All-GSAC and freshman outfielder Brittany Szafran was selected to Second Team All-Region.

Two MCCC women's tennis players will be headed to Tuscon, AZ, today, May 5, to compete in the NJCAA Division III National Championships May 5-12. Freshman Alison Noll, the Region 19 Champion at No. 1 singles will compete in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles flights. Freshman Kati Courtney will represent MCCC at No. 2 singles and partner with Noll at No. 1 doubles.

The baseball team will compete in the Final Four for Region 19 baseball from May 13-15. The tournament will be hosted by MCCC. In addition to Mercer, teams include Burlington, Lackawanna and the winner of this weekend's match-up between Sussex and Del Tech Owens. More details to come
