Updated 12/12/03

The Men's Soccer Team continues to make history, posting its 700th win on Oct. 15 with a 7-1 victory over Brookdale Community College.  With two additional wins on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18, the team's overall record stands at 702-84-15.  According to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, that gives Mercer the all-time record for most soccer wins of any junior college in the country.  Now in his 18th year with the team, MCCC Head Coach Charlie Inverso has been a key element of the Vikings' winning soccer tradition, which began in 1963 (when Mercer was known as Trenton Junior College).

More than halfway through the season, the Vikings remain undefeated with a record of 11-0-1.  "The season is going well," said Inverso.  "We have 10-12 guys who are performing great, eight of them returning from last year's squad that was No. 2 in the nation."  Playing on Mercer's new athletic field has helped tremendously, he adds, cutting down on serious injuries.702-84-15.

The Vikings' toughest opponent thus far was former national champs Bryant-Stratton, whom they played to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 28.  In the region, it has been smooth sailing, with the Vikings posting wins over arch rival Essex (4-0), Del Tech (4-2), and Ocean (7-0).   The Vikings face Louisburg on Friday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at home.  Louisburg played in the national tournament last year and is expected to give the Vikings a tough game.
