Irvin Johnson, a 6-foot-6 sophomore forward on the MCCC men's basketball team, has signed a letter of intent for a full athletic scholarship to Clark Atlanta University, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Johnson was co-captain of the Vikings team this year, which earned a 16-13 record.

As the lone returning starter, he was a role model who served as a backbone for the team, according to Head Coach Kelly Williams. "He was a pleasure to coach. Irvin was a hard worker every day. He was diligent in the classroom and on the court. He truly embodied my program at Mercer." A Criminal Justice major, Johnson plans to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Johnson has appreciated his experience at Mercer. A 2006 graduate of Parkville High School in Parkville, Maryland, he found a welcoming environment at the school. "Everyone was great - the professors and all the people who helped me out along the way," he said. Johnson was selected to the All-Garden State Athletic Conference First Team and the All-Region 19 Second Team this season.
