Alum
Antron Brown Wins at Indy
9/7/11
West
Windsor, N.J. -- MCCC alum Antron Brown ('98) is making history
in the one of the fastest sports in the world. He was featured
in an article by Tim Tuttle in Sports Illustrated (SI)
Sept. 2, prior to a major Top Fuel drag race in Indianopolis
over the Labor Day weekend. Read the SI story here.
Brown
ended the weekend victorious. According to USA Today,
dated Sept. 6, "In powering his dragster to a 3.813-second
run at 321.73 mph to eke past Del Worsham (3.830, 320.43)
in the Top Fuel final round in Clermont, Ind., Brown became
the first driver to collect wins in the Top Fuel and Pro Stock
Motorcycle class at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals."
Brown's
first fast moving career was racing Pro Stock motorcyles from
1998 to 2007, when he collected 16 victories and twice finished
second in the standings (2001 and '06). He is in his fourth
season in Top Fuel.

In
the USA Today article Brown says, "To come here and
win at Indy, the biggest stage in drag racing, means so much. It
just goes back to my childhood dream and sitting under those grandstands
as a kid and saying, 'I want to do that one day.' It's the greatest
feeling I've ever had."
Brown
earned his associate degree in Business Administration and competed
for the Vikings' track and field team in the 1990s, qualifying for
the 1996 National Junior College Athletic Association indoor track
championships in the 55-meter dash as a freshman. He attributes
many of the problem solving skills he uses today to his Mercer education.
