The
National Junior College Athletic Association has selected two athletes
from Mercer County Community College as All-Americans. MCCC men's
soccer player Amit Abudmad was selected for the NJCAA first team
and women's soccer player Kasey Kenny was selected for the second
team.
A
freshman midfielder, Abudmad was a key player for the Vikings this
season, scoring 19 goals and adding 4 assists, with key goals coming
in post-season play. The Vikings ended the season with a 20-2 record
and placed third at the NJCAA Division I tournament played in Phoenix,
AZ, in November. A native of Israel, Abudmad is majoring in Business
Administration.
A
freshman forward, Kenny scored a team-high 29 goals and added 12
assists. The Vikings won the Region 19 title and then lost 3-2 in
overtime to Monroe CC (NY) in the Division I Northeast District
final on Nov. 9. Ending the season with a 17-4-1 record, the women's
team earned its best record since 1989. A graduate of Tottenville
High School on Staten Island, Kenny is pursuing her associate degree
in Mercer's Physical Therapy Assistant program.
On the local
scene, numerous MCCC men's and women's soccer players were selected
for honors. On the men's side, Abudmad, Roy Vissers, Rob Cabrera,
Luke Stedmond and Sheldon Parkinson were named to both the All-Region
XIX and All-GSAC teams. On the women's side, Kenny, Erica Juricic,
and Marlene Chotkowski were chosen for the All-Region XIX team,
and Kenny and Chotkowski were selected for All-GSAC honors. Kenny
and Chotkowski were named the top two players in the region.
