West Windsor, N.J. – For the second time in as many weeks, players from the Mercer County Community College baseball team are getting noticed in the region.  Following the selection of pitcher Cody Astbury (Hamilton, NJ) as last week’s Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC ) Player of the Week, two more MCCC players have been named by the GSAC.

Freshman shortstop Vinny Vaccone (Philadelphia, Pa.), who is hitting .434, was selected after a string of Mercer victories in Maryland: 16-8 and 12-8 doubleheader wins against Harford Community College on March 1, a 9-2 win over Anne Arundel Community College on March 5, and 9-0 and 7-6 doubleheader wins over CCBC-Catonsville on March 6. Vaccone went 10 for 23 with four doubles, two home runs, five runs, 11 RBIs and two stolen bases.

Also selected was freshman Andrew DiPiazza (Bayville, NJ) as Pitcher of the Week. DiPiazza moved to 2-0 on the season after pitching six innings in the Vikings’ 9-0 win over CCBC-Catonsville.  He had 11 strikeouts, allowed just two hits and had only one walk.  Reliever John Wilkins closed out the game.

The team is currently 9-0 on the season.
